From their dark cold tunnels the Deep Ones drill to the surface to wrap their tentacles around unwary towns.
Beneath the surface of the earth there are endless tunnels that are the home to truly foul creatures. The deep ones, as they are called in hushed whispers, worm their way though these tunnels and sometimes drill their way up to the surface in search of sparkstone and people to drag screaming from their homes. Who knows what they truly are, as they wear heavy metal suits that encase their thick squat bodies and when these suits are opened whatever is inside melts into a smelly wet puddle.
Who the deep ones are or where they come from is a mystery. What they do with their captives is best left unexplored. Some say the dwarves know more, as their technology has some similarities to dwarven engineering, but dwarves refuse to discuss the deep ones entirely. Many sparkstone miners claim that at the very bottom of their sparkstone mines the deep ones have latched on and are slowly stealing their sparkstone from under them but this is widely considered to be paranoia.
When they attack they arrive in metal, squid-like drilling machines with arcane weapons and lashing barbed tentacles. In battle they can rise from the ground itself to attack enemy battle mechs and to disappear back into the earth a moment later. Fighting these chrome krakens is like being surrounded at all time; never knowing where the next attack will come from until your mech is grasped with sharp tentacles and is pulled into the depths of the tunnels; never to be seen again.
